The Life And Times Of This Old Man ~ Picking And Choosing ~ Bringer Of Peace? Warrior?

December 19, 2015

Hi Luv et alii,

Deciding which apple to eat is easy… pick the one without bruises and has the freshest stem. Which flowers to buy? Not a problem go with the scent you want in your house or the one you know will melt the heart of your loved one.

If only it was so easy to pick and choose the Jesus, Krishna, Buddha or Muhammad you follow.

You see it frequently in the news: These people aren’t the real followers of _ _ _ _ _ if they were they wouldn’t _ _ _ _ .

So how to choose?

How about following the advice offered by an old rabbi to two young rabbis who were debating a theological point;

When in doubt I have found it wise to do as my teacher suggested. I ask myself a simple question, Which choice has the best chance of creating life, love and peace?

I can hear the shouting already about how it is not right to pick and choose in the bible or whatever sacred text you follow. But of course you and everyone does.

So I ask again how do you choose your choices?

Consider the following quotes from the Christian sacred scriptures. The one you give the highest priority to will be the one that shapes your Jesus.

‘Ephesians 6:10-18

is your Jesus a warrior
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the

Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:’

Or do you choose;

‘Matthew 11

27 All things are delivered unto me of my

is your Jesus a bringer of peace

Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

Take care, stay real,
The Old Man
